Grandma's Ultimate Road Trip
Grandma's Ultimate Road Trip: Texas to Alaska
by Carol V. Weishampel, Ed.D.
Retired, rejuvenated and
raring to go, Carol began volunteering. Several missions' trips to Mexico were
followed by her first trip to Alaska. To celebrate her 60th birthday, she
traveled 13,000 miles, single and solo, to volunteer at a primitive youth camp
in Alaska. This trip was followed by two others. Grandma is an inspiration and
will keep on traveling and journeling her journeys.
Dr. Carol Weishampel, is a retired teacher who is the single parent of twelve kids, ten are adopted. She led her oldest daughters through Girl Scouts and wanted the younger ones to have similar experiences so bought a pop up camper and hit the road. Later, as the kids grew up and moved out, the camper was replaced by a series of motor homes. She became an Escapees member and a member of Campers on Mission in 1998 and has traveled in 48 states, including Alaska, Mexico and Canada as a volunteer and writer.
